The Lightning Thief

Rick Riordan · 2005 · 377 pages

Percy Jackson finds out his dad is a Greek god, his math teacher is a monster, and summer camp involves swords. The first quest is to stop a war between gods before the world notices.

Why we picked it

Funny, fast, and a good first mythology book. It treats ADHD and dyslexia as part of being a demigod, not a punchline.

Something to think about

If a parent you never met showed up with a quest, would you go?
