The House of the Scorpion

Nancy Farmer · 2002 · 380 pages

Matteo Alacrán is a clone of a 142-year-old drug lord, grown for parts in a country that isn't supposed to exist. He wants a name that is his. He may have to steal a whole life to get it.

Why we picked it

Lyrical, angry, and surprisingly tender. It's about a clone who wants a name that is actually his.

Something to think about

If someone else designed your body, how would you prove the mind inside is yours?
